OVERVIEW
- Hemodialysis technicians, commonly known as dialysis technicians, provide patient care to persons who have persistent kidney failure in collaboration with a doctor or nurse [end-stage renal disease).Dialysis of the kidneys eliminates metabolic waste from the blood. Dialysis technicians are medical professionals who have been trained to operate dialysis machines. Their key responsibilities include monitoring dialysis patients, assuring safe and secure machine operation, and changing patient fluid removal rates as needed.
OBJECTIVES
- Collect and assess the patient's chart and vitals
- Manage dialysis machine set up and assemble the extracorporeal circuit
- Prepare and position the patient for treatment
- Monitor technical/clinical vitals during the treatment
- Demonstrate skill in nursing techniques
